World Cares Center fosters sustainable, community-led disaster preparedness, response and recovery initiatives. In Haiti, World Cares Center works in communities with the overlooked “grassroots groups” that run clinics, orphanages, schools and neighborhood committees that not only serve their communities but also those in the spontaneously formed IDP camps throughout the country. WCC’s all-Haitian team delivers the following services:
1. GrassrootsAyiti, a network for Haiti’s NGO groups to share resources and access information and support from groups such as UNICEF and other UN Cluster partners
2. The provision of donated goods, including medication and hygiene supplies to communities , clinic and schools
3. Matching of international volunteer medical teams to local clinics to support a train-the-trainer program
4. The provision of training on:
a. Disaster management for community leaders
b. Disaster preparedness for communities with a focus on hurricanes and flooding
c. Proper hygiene, including specialized training for children and mothers
d. Camp safety, including rape and abuse prevention
e. Leadership training and empowerment initiatives in disaster management |
